What is Dyslexia?
There are a number of different definitions of dyslexia but they generally suggest that dyslexia is a learning difficulty that affects the skills involved in reading and spelling. It can also affect the speed at which information is processed and understood as well as other areas including organisational skills.
The Rose Report, adopted by the Department for Education and The British Dyslexia Association states that:
“Characteristic features of dyslexia are difficulties in phonological awareness, verbal memory and verbal processing speed. Dyslexia occurs across the range of intellectual abilities. It is best thought of as a continuum, not a distinct category, and there are no clear cut-off points.”
